Too Much Love, Nuture and Services Leads to A Break of Fostering

Never a dull moment here in our household. Bringing me to my point where I thought or we thought the reason we would stop fostering children within the Department of Social Services would not be from too much love, from advocating as if they were our own or better yet because we recently were called an exception to the rule. However, here we stand approximately seven months exactly to the day when I first received a telephone call where I was told our home would be needing a "mandatory break".

Did I hear the words right? Break!

When I asked why, I was given weird reasoning of rules that did not exist, somewhat knowing the policy plus further researching after the telephone call, I immediately asked for it in writing where later social services came back a week later during a sit down meeting and stated they were wrong and misread the policy. However, in the same breath I was being told that with the children (homegrown, adopted and foster) in our home, they felt my hands were full and would not place any future placements at that time. This being from people who have never spent a day in our home, come on a park outing, come out to dinner, spent any time in our home, watched our schedule, sat down for a moment to see us in action but only going by what and at the time I did not know. So giving to their benefit, PAPER!

Just a little background of us...anyone who knows us, really know us, knows that we are always busy, whether we have three children or seven children. Though disabled, I am organized, I volunteer and I NEVER take on anything I cannot handle. I know my limits, I always have. My husband and I balance one another and it works. Several years after my accident, we had a path and a calling. The direction was foster care. Our opportunity to see blessings and gifts from a completely different perspective, to give back and maybe make a difference. Even if a small one it was something.

In the years of fostering, we have never had an allegation of any kind (knock on wood), we have followed all of the rules set-forth by the State and our County, we like to lay low, do not ask for favors, do not have any special relationship with County Social Workers, Management, Supervisors, etc. and in all the years we have been fostering always seem to keep a full home. We have taken each placement whether for an hour or a year shown them each love, cared for them, kept them safe and treated them as our own but that all changed seven months ago. The reason given - "We Feel Your Hands are Full"

To this day, we cannot tell you truly what changed as we really do not know. We can make assumptions and speculate but honestly we are reminded how much power social services has over our home. We knew the moment going into foster care our life, home, day to day dealings would be an open book but out of all of this the reassurance social services has given us is that the standards between each foster home is different. Case and point, there are several homes that have very similar situations to ours; children, services, caregivers etc. Though, for some reason our home is being flagged. At the time of our first meeting those several months ago, I offered to have our caregiver come more days per week from two and half days a week to five days a week. Quickly told it would not matter as the remark was then who was watching the children, I agreed. Does this not happen with the foster families who already have caregivers or what about the families who work full time and children go to a day care or preschool? What makes them so different?

So, we have complied with the "mandatory break" with a discussed timeline of three to six months to further reevaluate. On my request. Just recently, I met again with social services to reevaluate our situation. Knowing things have changed in our home plus going past the six month mark. Somewhat hopeful to get some reassurance that there might be a change but still, the same answer, "we feel your hands are still full and would not be ethically and morally right placing another child at this time". What if something were to go wrong? This question is a question that can be asked on any foster home at any time? If social services is asking that question then I believe social services needs to do some reevaluating of some current foster homes. As there are several homes that have one more infant, toddler, child like our situation and those home are not being placed on a "mandatory break". What made our home so special? Oh, let's just say seven months ago our home received attention two ways, I personally asked to be taken off adoption list which our home should have not been on in the first place and the other way, our girls biological parents had another baby and was directed by a County Worker on how to report it, let's just say that did not work out so well. I do not believe in coincidences but interesting on the timing of everything.

Honestly, I do not know what to think, I was recently told that social services tracks emergency 911 calls, so if that is the case, careful about being a Good Samaritan because that is a count against you, if that statement is a fact. We do know if our home will never get off this "mandatory break" no timeline has been given, no parameters of what they are looking for to change, nothing in writing nor can give anything in writing as we have not done anything to warrant a write-up but here is the power of a governmental office. I stated seven months ago to a higher up within social services, if for some reason our home would be let off the "mandatory break" I felt somewhere there would still be limits in placing. Here I am, right as ever, though I was reassured that would not happen, our home will NEVER be able to meet the County's expectations especially hard when no timeline to re-evaluate and nothing to compare.

With this all said, it was expressed that we should be happy with the children in our home. Yes, we are happy and blessed beyond anyone can image for the children that we have been able to give birth to, to foster and the children that we have been able to foster then adopt but when we started almost seven years ago, we wanted to strictly foster, our gifts of adopting have been icing on the cake, no one ever expressed hey, if you adopt you may find yourself banned from fostering somewhere down the road. It was asked if we would have changed our minds of adoption. NO, saying this with full conviction as our plan has been set, things happen for reasons, the children placed in our home all for reasons. We love ALL of our children, but we were asked to change our home from foster to adopt at the very beginning and WE BOTH SAID NO! That is how passionate we are about FOSTERING!

This "mandatory break" may be a point in our life on our roller coaster that we just do not know where it is supposed to lead but what is troubling is the reasoning behind it and how it is being handled. Understanding that all things in life are not fair and some things may not be for one as they are for another but if we are expected to follow rules, the expectation is the same from our peers and the people we work with; then again we must be reminded that perception is not always reality but it is a fine line and we cannot control what others perceptions are as it is their reality.

Here is to our Mandatory Break! GOD BLESS!

Extraordinary Blessing and Opportunity Made Possible with a Choice of Organ Donation

Mother Hears Son’s Donated Heart Beating Inside Girl, 4, Who Received Transplant -

Article Credit: KTLA - Posted January 30, 2016 website http://ktla.com/2016/01/30/mother-hears-sons-donated-heart-beating-inside-girl-who-received-transplant/

Heather Clark was given the extraordinary opportunity to listen to her son's heartbeat for the first time in nearly three years -- by placing a stethoscope against the chest of a young transplant recipient. Heather Clark faced an unthinkable tragedy in 2013 when she lost her 7-month-old son, Lukas. She chose to donate his organs and saved the lives of three children, including 4-year-old Jordan Drake.
In November, Clark made contact with Jordan's family. She wrote about it on Facebook:
"I would like to share something with all the amazing Lukas supporters. Today I have been in contact with a beautiful family. This beauty (Jordan) is the girl who has Lukas heart beating in her. One day I will meet her and squeeze her so tightly! Thank you to her mom and dad who allow me to be a part of their lives. This is the best Christmas present I could have asked for."
On Friday, Clark was given the opportunity to meet Jordan at Phoenix Children's Hospital and listen to her son's heartbeat for the first time in three years.

Clark wrote"One week from today I will be listening to Lukas' heartbeat once again. I will be holding Jordan in my arms showering her with love and kisses!"
Jordan's mother, Esther Gonzalez, was anxious about meeting Clark for the first time.
"I'm not going to say anything. I'm just going to hug her. I think I have run out of words at this point,” Gonzalez said, moments before the encounter. “Hugging ... I don't have anything else to say.”
Heather Clark's son, Lukas, is seen in a photo provided by Donate Life Arizona.

Donate Life Arizona shared photos of the emotional meeting on Facebook. The group also captured the reunion on video.

"Amid the unthinkable grief of losing her son Lukas, Heather made a decision that saved three lives,” the nonprofit said in a statement. “Jordan received Lukas' precious heart when she was just 18 months old. Yesterday, Heather heard her son's heartbeat for the first time in nearly three years.”

Esther Gonzalez's son, Lukas, is seen in a photo provided by Donate Life Arizona.Dr. John Nigro of Phoenix Children’s Hospital, who recovered Lukas’ heart and performed Jordan’s heart transplant, also attended the get-together.

"Blessings to Heather Clark & Family and Jordan Drake & Family"

A Glimpse of Foster Care and Adoption - Today is Thursday, Right?

This is A Reality of Our World of Foster Care and Adoptions -
Post Credit to Alaina Beth Young Haerbig - January 28, 2016 1:28am

"To the person who doesn't understand the significance of today:

You're a lot like me. I mean, it's just a Thursday, right? Except it's not. It's an anniversary.

Six months ago, my world changed completely when the phone rang, then a little one arrived, cute as the dickens. I understood my work was cut out for me when I said, "Come here, cutie, and let me change your diaper," and he replied casually, "Get out my face, MoFo!" as he walked away.
It is a wonderful anniversary of that day- a reminder of how far we've come when he says, "Momma, wanna see? Wookit dat biiig poopie I did inna potty for you!" Yes, I will gladly accept that anniversary present, little one. You have gotten so much more than your mouth under control in these six months. It may be a normal Thursday, but we will celebrate this day of little victories together.

But not all that this day marks is worthy of celebration. Today, a pastor and his wife will kiss their little one just once more, and do their best to smile and wave as a social worker takes her from the only home she has ever known, to be reunified with a near stranger who loves her but is ill equipped to parent.

They will pack a brand new box of Dora band aids- her favorite- because they know that she will literally chew the skin from her fingers in an attempt to control the terror she experiences at the hand of her older brother. (You know, the one who watches her when a John is visiting.) They have pictures. I've seen them- Blood in rivulets running down the little palm to her wrist. Because she is scared, and her one momma won't protect her, and the other momma now can't.

This date will be an anniversary for the rest of their lives, the pastor's and his wife's. They will never forget, and they will never be able to tell this precious one whom they love that they didn't want to let her go. They understand that she will think they abandoned her, and this normal Thursday will forever bear that extra sting for them. And no one will bring them a meal, or a sympathy card. "You knew this was what would happen," they will say, "I told you not to get attached."

But that's nothing compared to what this day is for another mom.

Today is one year since her son's murder. Returned to his first family, he was dead three days later, tortured for those three days at the hands of the woman who birthed him. His foster mom planned and paid for his funeral and the stone to bear witness to his short life, and still had to fight to get his surviving twin back into her care.

I can't understand how she functions, and no one is bringing her a casserole because today will be hard.

It's not a normal Thursday.

Another friend finally gets to post a picture of her son, because after years of fostering him, today he will be adopted and hers forever. She will celebrate today because HE became a part of WE. And she will mourn today because she understands that HE lost part of tHEy- the family to whom he was born and should have never had to leave. She will feel torn for rejoicing because she understands the magnitude of his missing history, and she will celebrate this Thursday with a schizophrenic split between joy and grief for this precious boy she now claims forever. She might get a card, but she didn't get a baby shower. And when he acts out because of his early trauma, even her family will say, "you asked for this. Why are you complaining?"

I'm not making this up. This is today, January 28. These are people in my sorority, an unlikely fellowship forged with rabid republicans and doting democrats, straights and gays, Christians and atheists. These are people I might never even have liked in my previously normal world...

Yet they are the ones with whom I will celebrate my poopie present. They are the ones with whom I will cry over a child I have never met as she goes (away from) home. They are those with whom I will grieve for a boy who will never be a man, and the ones with whom I will rejoice over an orphan who became a son.

Today is not a normal Thursday. They understand.

And I hope, if you read this, that maybe you do, too.

If you know a foster family- take them a casserole, or share this with them so they know that today is no longer a normal Thursday for you, either.

It's an anniversary."

GOD BLESS

One Decision, Two Decision

We all have it, that feeling in the bottom of our stomach that aches when we know something is not right. Sometimes or some of us can feel it sooner than others. If you get the feeling, do not ever ignore it! Nine out of ten times you will be right, I would say ten out of ten but there is always that margin for error.

Twice now, I have ignored my feeling. The deep aching feeling in the pit of my stomach; thinking maybe it was the margin for error. Twice now, someone in my life has made a decision where in their first decision which did not go so well; feelings and emotions were then experienced by their outcome. Feelings of sadness, anger, heartache, regret and silence. Now fast forward several months later, the same decision is being made again due to their circumstances.

I sit here and think what went wrong. Why did their circumstances not change? Well, as the saying goes you can only lead the horse to water but you cannot make the horse drink. Yes, this is absolutely true but also there are those cases when the horse may need some help when the horse cannot figure out that the water is right in front of him. Also, I have written a couple of time history repeats itself and it does sometimes sooner than later. So on that note, knowing what we all just went through, I am hoping that we will not see the same issues arise but I am not holding my breath. Only because I know why the decision is being made to begin with for that matter both decisions and because of that history will repeat itself. There will be the time to see the past raw emotions again; the watching, listening and hearing of sadness, heartache, anger, regret and silence. I do hope I am wrong because it was not an enjoyable experience the first time around as well a heavy burden to carry.

Why I am writing about it? Two reasons, being human I need to have an outlet, there always comes a point where your need to make sure you are re-grouping. Second maybe if one person reads this and rethinks about making the same decision on something or possible to find another way. It was all worth it. Things are hard in life, things are scary but always remember to communicate with your family, your close friends or someone who you are close too. You may not like what they have to say at times and you do not have to agree but sometimes it is a different perspective on your situation. You may find that it what you needed. In return, not communicating or holding back information always comes back to bit you where it hurts. Being honest upfront is so much easier in the beginning than back peddling in the end. GOD BLESS

Writing With The Little's

Lately, I have been at a loss for words, not really knowing what to write but having so much to say. The wheels in my mind are turning faster than I can process and I cannot make much sense when it comes to putting it into words. So many topics I can write about, many different directions I can go but where to start, what to say, how to say it, has been an issue over the past weeks.

Those questions listed have been the reasons I have been quiet, not posting; wanted to give quality posts not a post for just because reasons. There are topics that I just want to scream from the top of my lungs as there seems to be this lingering in the pit of my stomach of something that is just not right, there are topics that are just a bit of fun and then there are topics I just wanted to say with grace and have someone say I have been there too.

I sit here with my hands on my face, typing every couple of minutes, looking at my computer then getting up from there thinking I will come back and it will come to me. Thinking I have this great notation of a post to write about. Will I get what I truly want to say out? I truly know what I want to say but where are the words, why are they not flowing from my head to my fingertips? Surely it will come eventually, right?

With this all said and written, I find it funny and interesting my little's, all four, never mind you, have been sitting, jumping, crying at times, while laughing, playing, climbing, asking for this and that, playing with anything and everything that is in reach of me, the desk and the computer, so basically overtaking my desk and me for that matter. I am so reminded with much LOVE that this is my life, our life.

In this time of writing, I can say we, together, have fixed many typographical errors made by little hands, we have played tic-tac-toe, we have drawn on scrap paper, doodled a lot and I have read my thoughts out loud; secretly thinking I would get feedback all the while I have played referee amongst everyone who wanted to sit on my lap all at the same time but most importantly somehow we worked together.

The point of my post today is as much as I have a set schedule, a topic I may have really wanted to post, appointments that are set for this or that; things may not always work the way the plan I started but in the end all turned out OKAY! I do have to remind myself this especially when I feel my own level of anxiety kick in, even with being OCD, control is not always an option. Little's or for the matter, children, teenagers, young adults and adults have their own way and at times we are not always on the same path and it too is OKAY!

I cannot count how many times during today's adventure of writing with my little's, I said "let's use our smeller" meaning stop and take a breath! It truly does works, so after all said and done, take a moment, enjoy your family whether big or small, enjoy your day, smile, have a tea party, have a car race, blow some bubbles, take in some fresh air, laugh, enjoy a good book, movie or just some downtime for yourself. Make every minute count, no matter what and have No Regrets!

GOD BLESS

If You Change Nothing, Nothing Will Change

Where did this year of 2015 go?

It is crazy to think that in nineteen days, we will be saying Happy New Year! Wow! The Holidays for the month have come so quick! Our friends who celebrate Chanukah, celebration began on December 6th and twelve days from now, we will be gathering and celebrating for Christmas. The statement "Time sure does fly" seems to be an understatement right at the moment.

I am sitting here as I have been given a rare moment of silence while everyone is still sleeping, thinking about what is to come for the upcoming year. So many things come to mind though not so hard when my mind never seems to stop. My mind races to the old items that have been left and unturned then my mind races to the upcoming New Year and what new things will bring change and excitement to our household?

Given most of us have New Year List's, the New Year's Resolutions; I know that our family plus my own personal list has items that have been written down year after year. Partially accomplished, some just pushed down the list waiting to be cracked. Now, it's make or break it time, needing to look at the list differently. Tackling the lists with full force like I look at my clothes closet. If I have not worn the article of clothing or turned the hanger in six months, time to purge. Hence, the list definitely needs to be purged. How many reading this can relate? I understand there may be perfect explanations of why items may not have been accomplished or have not been fully completed throughout the year or years....my explanation is Life! Now, is this time to step up and make lifestyle changes.

Like I said, life happens. Life is a very interesting as it tends to repeat itself and having the same thing placed on a New Year's Resolution year after year seems a little redundant. To see a difference, make CHANGE! As the first of the year continues to approach quickly, think about your New Year's Resolutions, I know I am not only for myself but for my family. Think Family, Think Spiritually and Prayer, Think Health and Wellness, Think Well Rounded Happiness, Think Financial, Think Travel, Think Friends, Think Security, Think Positivity...Whatever you have on your New Year's Resolution for the upcoming year, PUT IT INTO ACTION! Make a CHANGE,
Surprise yourself as to what your Roller Coaster Ride can be, it may be just what you have been missing....GOD BLESS

Senseless Tragedy - Prayers for All Involved at Inland Regional Center

Today is a very sad day! What is going on in our country or for that matter our world? Today, it just hit closer to my home. Yes, I live in California but Southern California to be precise. This tragic incident is where my little's receive special need support and services as do many other children and adults. I have been blessed for many years by being able to utilize the services provided by Inland Regional Center but also have been able to utilize the services through the foster care system.

I have worked and also know many of the workers and therapists plus with my own children having their own case managers; this truly saddens me. I keep checking social media of every kind seeing whatever changing news, checking the TV for updates as my case workers have become like family. They may not be family by blood but with all the time and effort spent they are close to family as you can get. They know my children's needs, their services and my needs for resources as well as just being my sounding board at times. I just spoke with one yesterday and had a meeting scheduled for this Thursday. The other I just had meetings with two weeks ago and just spoke to last Wednesday. Many times they go out of their way to do great things and many countless hours spent for my children and all the children and adults in their case load. Many emails and calls back and forth. I am very thankful.

This is just an unnecessary situation as so are the other many tragedy's in our society today. We can ask ourselves why but it will not change what happened today. I do not know what is or is not the right question. I do know that I can pray and continue to pray for fourteen that have been taken to be with the Angels (possibly more per the press conference) and to the fourteen that are being care for in area hospitals as well as to all the families of this senseless tragedy that has made a mark and will forever stand with the unknown of WHY? GOD BLESS!

Smiliarities through Different Circumstances are Right in Front of Us

Twenty one years ago today, I sat in a dental chair and had the worst experience that one could image. It started with a molar that was bothering me. So, like normal, I made an appointment with the dentist whom I had used several times before. This appointment started out well but as I received the shot to numb the area, the numbing process just was not doing its thing. A couple of injection later still nothing. The dentist ensured me; all would be okay. With full assurance from the dentist, the drill started. In the beginning all okay then I felt it; a sharp, tingly feeling of pain. First thought, it was all in my head. Nope! I began to wince with every touch of the drill to my tooth. The more I winced and scowled, the angrier I became. Why was the dentist not noticing? Then finally he spoke, he stated there was no possible way I should feel anything. Really, was he a part of my mouth! Did he feel the pain? I felt everything. So much I punched the drill right out of the dentist's hand causing a cut to his arm. Well that lovely experience with the dentist was my turning point. I was ruined. My trust for the dentist and any part of dental field was broken.

The story of my tooth; yes, I had an issue with my tooth. A toothache which became more agitated due to the numbing shots and the drill. Ultimately causing an abscess. Within twenty four hours, my left side of my face was swollen with some black and blue tones. The real kicker, my birthday was coming up and we had plans to travel to Las Vegas. Also, pregnant with our first born, unable to take pain medication plus sporting this new look made it an interesting trip. Interesting but not surprised how bold people become after a few drinks. One gentlemen out right asked how many times I was beat by my husband for not listening. Did I mention, David was sitting right next to me? Another time, I was given information on women shelters. We were not sure if it was the setting of Las Vegas or just the perception of Las Vegas but the world is sure funny and the versions people come up with.

Now fast forward to my recent appointment, sitting in the dental chair having work done by a dentist who has not steered me wrong, knows my anxiety level, my fear of what I am not able to control. A dentist who works on my entire family, takes his time and for me takes every precaution especially knowing my disability and what it does to my system. Things just do not go as smooth when your body has been through many things or as I say the coo-coo clock is not chirping right. The projection of My FEAR, my HINDERANCE is now passed on to this dentist. A dentist who does a great job but has taken the burden of someone else's mistake. His patience and respect for me and my family, I am beyond grateful and thankful.

It reminds me to look through the looking glass of life. Our family has been doing this daily. We choose to care for another person due to a mistake of their parents or caregiver. We give back through the foster care system, a child who comes into our home with what we believe as their UNKNOWN, their FEARS, their ANXIETY but what makes it all worth it is knowing that we have the power to love, support, listen, provide safety, and stability for whatever time period is needed. Just as my dentist knows his patience, efforts and time to get me through my FEAR; means the world to me. It goes to show there are many circumstances in this world which are the same but not the same; we just have to look a little harder to see the similarities and be thankful for who and what are put into our lives. As I always say, there is a reason for everything, we may not know why at the time but in time the reason will be revealed. GOD BLESS

We go on and on about our differences. But, you know, our differences are less important than our similarities. People have a lot in common with one another, whether they see that or not. - William Hall

Jumping in With Both Feet

Before
After
Yesterday, I walked into the hair salon gung-ho just wanting something, not really sure what but just something. The stylist who also is part of my family looked at me like what? Can you give me a clue? I could not answer, I did not even know. I just knew I wanted a CHANGE! As I have been many shades of blonde, I have been red, hair of two colors (light blonde with a merlot under tone) she said what do you want? Color of blue, silver, darker, just give me something? As I think it would be fun to do the in colors of blue, silver, green or even a multi-color; I am not sure if would be able to pull that off. So I opted for some lowlights of red and highlights of blonde (my safety net of color).

Starting the foil process of colors which continued for approximately two hours then off to the wash station to seal the product. All the while I trying to figure out a cut, all I said was I want you to cut it but leave it long. Was that a fair assumption to give? It is just hair, right? One thing about your hair is, if you are having a bad hair day, everything feels off. You may have the cutest outfit on or wearing the best shoes but when your hair is not in your good place, nothing else matters. Well, that is how I feel. Plus, it is hard for me to manage my hair. I say that lightly having naturally curly hair as flat irons, curling irons or even the round brush when it takes twenty plus minutes to style my hair thus causing my hands to go numb often. This is what make is not manageable. Hence, why I wear my hair up a lot not because it is the faster route! Just a side effect from my accident, disability and the many surgeries I have had. I do take the time some days, it is a nice feeling when you hair is done and styled. I am lucky though, I have an awesome daughter who when she has the time will do my hair, love you Bay!!!

Now, the waiting has come to an end and it is time to see what the color process created. Towel off and at first I felt I made a mistake. What was I thinking telling her I wanted something new? I just keep staring. It was definitely different. Usually, I am used to seeing all blonde, many many light shades and red underneath. I thought, what would my husband say? Would he like it? I did not know and I did not care because did I like it? As I kept looking in the mirror she began to joke about if my husband would even notice, would he notice the colors, would he notice that she was cutting more than the normal half inch I usually allow or all the layers that just starting to occur. I knew he would, he always noticed. If does not, he makes a good argument as he always states his opinion whether he likes my "new" hair or not. One of the many things, I do love of him. Well this time, it would not be hard it was not just a few blonde highlights.

I definitely got change I asked for. With the color, cut and style, I left with a smile genuinely. Thank you, Tina. I took the risk, the risk many times I wanted when I sat in that same exact chair but did not have the courage to take. This time, I leaped all in. Change is something that is needed from time to time. Just have to jump in with both feet. Knowing, there are times it may be what we are not expecting or wanting but you never know until it happens as you may be surprised with the outcome in a great way. You just have to have Faith!

In the end, almost four hours later (the price of beauty and keeping up), I came home to my husband telling me my hair looked great and I was beautiful. My three old year daughter looked at me and said "hair beautiful mommy" so I will take that all day long. Yes, it is just hair and there are bigger things in life to worry about but sometimes taking a risk or making a change when you are not sure what the outcome will be; pays off with great rewards. GOD BLESS

Our 20th Anniversary....

Today is a very honored and special day across the country, it honors our veterans who have served and are continually serving as well as those who have sacrificed and died for our country and freedom. Today also is very special as twenty years ago, I married my husband. We hit the Twenty Year Mark, a milestone of Marriage! However, we have not hit that milestone without going through plenty to get here.

Marriage defined by Webster's:

Mar´riage
n.1.The act of marrying, or the state of being married; legal union of a man and a woman for life, as husband and wife; wedlock; matrimony.
Marriage is honorable in all.
- Heb. xiii. 4.
2.The marriage vow or contract.
3.A feast made on the occasion of a marriage.
The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king which made a marriage for his son.
- Matt. xxii. 2.
4.Any intimate or close union

I can still remember the first time we met, the place, the people (thanks Randy). Basically the day the seed was planted. Only a couple of weeks later, after several late night telephone calls, was our official date. Our life began and the seed sprouted (quickly might I add). From getting engaged after four months of meeting and dating, then finding out we were going to be parents eight months into our relationship. Yes, sometimes protection just does not work! Well, with wedding plans in full motion, we decided, well I decided that I just did not want to be a pregnant bride. So, we held off for little over a year and our little family of three was officially one!

Twenty years, two decades, many years for many things to happen. I can say that these past years have been many emotions, some super great, some super not so great, it is Marriage, it is our Marriage! I do find it is interesting as the above definition says nothing about work. Marriage is somewhat work. Every day I feel you must work at your marriage, you cannot sit back and think that all will be okay. Otherwise one or both becomes complacent! As anyone married will tell you, there are days of utter bliss and there are days of pure annoyance. Marriage has many rewards but one of the biggest rewards comes when you can get through the toughest times knowing that when it is all said and done your marriage is that much stronger.

I can vouch, we definitely have been through some tough and interesting times. From scary pregnancies, premature babies, lost employments, medical issues, a separation, reconstructive surgeries, extended family drama, a life altering accident and long term permanent disability, crooked attorneys, passing of family members; all leading to life changing moments that have made us who we are today. US!!!!

Despite all the riffraff of life, our roller coaster ride has been ridden with plenty of love, prayers, support, laughs, tears, and smiles. Here is to another twenty years and another twenty years, through the downward spiral and the upward climb, either way, our safe place is our family unit. Which was started with just you and I. For that brings the butterflies in my stomach and tears of joy.

Through it all, we have marked our milestones as at five years we threw a huge party, at ten years we celebrated in Cabo while celebrating a new marriage of Alison and Tony while getting new rings a kind of new beginning, at fifteen years we celebrated quietly at home with family and now our twentieth we are getting away for the weekend (no kids I might add) to enjoy our time together. I know when we first met we talked about everything and our plans for the future, never in my wildest dreams, I thought we would be where we are today. I can truly say, looking back, I would not have it any other way. I am so thankful for everything that has happened, what we have seen, shared, done, been given and been able to do.... ALL TOGETHER!!!!

Twenty years is a lot of time. Some of the time, we have taken for granted but for the most part we have done Awesome! I love you always and forever, Happy Anniversary! xoxo

So it's not gonna be easy. It's going to be really hard; we're gonna have to work at this everyday, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, everyday. You and me... everyday.” - Nicholas Sparks

GOD BLESS

Honoring National Adoption Month

With November being National Adoption Month it brings up a whole slew of memories, memories of all the little's who we have had the opportunity to love, watch, keep safe, then to be a part of their reunification or adoption.

I say adoption is not for the faint of heart as the process is not always the easiest. The emotional roller coaster or the process of the court system through foster care either wanting you to keep your guard up many of the times but keeping your heart open always. When we first started to foster several years ago, it was suggested that we be an adoptive home, we kindly replied "no". We did not think that adoption was our calling; little did we know then. We knew for a fact, that we wanted to help and give back to children by way of fostering and at that time we were not sure if we had any intention to adopt. Surely, if we were to adopt, would it be our first child placed or the one hundredth child placed.

Now, fast forward to the present, our family since the day we started fostering has grown from a family of five to a family of nine. It is interesting how life turns and your path keeps changing. The path GOD has placed for you. We have fostered several babies, toddlers and young children over the years, experienced many things and have been greatly fortunate in our life. Have had many ups and downs. Generally experienced life while having gifts through the foster care system. Fostering is such an abundant and joyful experience when you are able to be involved with the process to watch a child be reunified with their parents, grandparents and relatives or placed with adoptive parents. Do not get me wrong it is also a bittersweet process too. Plus being part of the process to see a mother and father lose their child under any circumstance is very overwhelming. Then becomes all too real when you are the adoptive parents. Bittersweet is such an understatement!

We as adoptive parents have closed adoptions, though we choose to maintain contact with our children's families. In my heart it is the right decision and the most important for our children. We now have a huge extended family. GOD could have placed any child with us, but he chose to place the children we have. I have learned so much, been humbled in many ways, been down many roads, I continue to deal with my own disability daily and it works (not always..lol) and I am reminded many times there is still so much more.

I wake up each day and know that I have experience child birth, blessed beyond belief as some are not so fortunate then I think I am more blessed as we have been given blessings of the heart many times over. As I continue to walk my path along with my husband and children, I (we) will continue to foster or adopt if called upon but it will be as our family unit! GOD BLESS
